Classic match: Renaissance 7-0 Dynamo DBH
League: Paddington 5-a-side
Date: 10 February 2009
This was a brutal and ruthlessly efficient display. And a fitting farewell to the Paddington league for Renaissance never returned to Paddington.
Comparable to AC Milan's 4-0 demolition of Barcelona in the 1994 European Cup final.
And Renaissance were determined to clean sheet.
Top Corner Champions Cup 11/9/10
Renaissance returned to competitive action in the annual Top Corner Champions Cup last saturday. The blues peformed exceptionally well, winning three and drawing one of the four games they played.
However, the curious organisation of the tournament (only the top team goes through) meant that Renaissance, despite being undefeated, could not advance to the latter stages of the competition. It would have been churlish to argue that the blues didn't deserve a chance at the knock out phase.
Going into the last match needing to win in order to cancel out Team Ice Creams superior goal difference, Renaissance were left to rue some controversial referee decisions from an all too familiar quarter. They will take heart from a great team performance though, underlying their obvious quality in the 5 a side format of the game. Thoughts now turn to the future of the club, and we'll bring you any news on this as soon as its announced.
Last season's champions Bertrams retained their title.

Scholesy shines as Renaissance show their character
Renaissance 4 Spartak Hampstead 2
Col Presly
Renaissance have won an entertaining contest 4-2 against Spartak Hampstead. The blues showed all the required attributes, despite having a depleted squad. With only six players available at kick off, Renaissance had to draft in a member of Big Kick, or face the first ten minutes a man light. A memorable Scholesy hattrick and a top notch strike from the stand in blue ensured all three points.
Sloppy Blues allow Gypsies to nick a point
Renaissance 3 The Gypsies 3
Col Presly
Renaissance have squandered two points after conceeding a late goal to the Gypsies in a 3-3 thriller. Despite being 3-1 up and seemingly in control, defensive frailties proved costly, and the result now sees the blues languishing in mid table.
As the game started, Renaissance had only six players on the field. However, this did not stop them taking an early lead when nice play between Scholesy and The Artist saw the latter finish smartly. A few minutes later Da Vinci completed the line up and parity was restored.
It soon got better, as Scholesy fired a delightful shot well beyond the reaches of the Gypsies stopper.
The Gypsies looked to rally themselves after this fine start from Renaissance, and made it 2-1 when a ball was not cleared near the goaline, and a subsequent pass into the area found a man who made no mistake with the finish.
A rare own goal took the score to 3-1, as a shot from The Artist took a heavy deflection off a defender and wrong footed the keeper. It remains to be seen if it will be credited to the Renaissance man.
However, just before half time, the Gypsies made the scoreline more interesting, when an audacious shot from a corner managed to sail over Xawfrus and find the net. 3-2 HT
In the second half Renaissance pushed forward trying to get a killer fourth goal. Scholesy, the Artist and particularly Coluccio all came close. He would have liked to have done better with his effort near the left hand post. At the other end, Renaissance worked hard to keep their lead as the Gypsies offered limited attacking threats.
With about two minutes remaining, the Gypsies won a corner. Poor marking allowed a free player to get to the ball first and shoot high past Xawfrus. The scores now level, Renaissance had very little time to snatch a winner. The Gypsies were able to see out the remaining seconds, and could not hide their delight about coming away with a share of the spoils. FT 3-3
Hetherington brothers put four in Virgin’s hole
Renaissance 4-1 The Virgins
Andrew Presly
For posterity (keeping the website updated) the following happened:
1-0 Nice passing from the Blues, Scholesy put through, good strike hits post / keeper and goes in.
2-0 D Heatherington fires a low ball into the box for C Heatherington to finish from close range.
3-0 D Heatherington picks up ball from a quickly taken free kick, advances into the Vs half and unleashes a great shot into the bottom right corner. No goalies apart from T-How or possibly Jan Mucha would have a chance of saving that one...
4-0 Its 4. D "The Hammer" Heatherington strikes again. This one is slightly less cultured but equally impressive. Whacked down the middle from 20 yrds through a crowded box. Nice.

4-1 For the second week in a row The Artist loses possession in a dangerous area and is ruthlessly punished. (Phil Surtees picks the ball up and runs back to the centre circle after a brief goalmouth scuffle with The Shaman and Xawfrus*)
